With advances in Samba authentication, the squid proxy can use Active Directory authentication.<\/p>\n

In addition MS Internet Explorer can use the \u201cIntegrated Security\u201d feature which means no password box popping up when accessing the Internet.\u00a0 In my case Windows 7 authentication was not working through a squid proxy.\u00a0 Meaning samba authentication was not working.<\/p>\n

Below it the fix for Windows 7 clients.<\/p>\n

Root cause as shown in \/var\/log\/samba\/log.wb-YOUR_DOMAIN:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Control Panel > System and Security\u00a0 > Administrative Tools<\/li>\n
  2. Open, Local Security Policy Computer Management<\/li>\n
  3. Local Policies > Security Options > Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication level Properties<\/li>\n
  4. Set to \"Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated<\/strong>\u201d
